Radiator network balancing for housing companies
The goal of balancing is to achieve a functional heating network where each radiator provides exactly the right amount of heat output and the system operates silently.
Why is radiator network balancing important?
Radiator network balancing ensures that the heating network operates in a balanced manner and that each radiator delivers exactly the right heat output. A properly executed balancing eliminates noise, evens out temperature differences between apartments, and improves the energy efficiency of the entire property. During the balancing process, the flow rates, pressures, and temperatures of the radiator network are adjusted to match the design values, ensuring the network operates quietly and reliably under all conditions. A balanced network also prevents technical problems. Flow rates that are too high can cause disturbing noise and wear out valves, while flow rates that are too low lead to cold rooms and uneven heat distribution. The extent of the network, pipe sizing, and the type of radiator network dictate what kind of balancing measures are necessary.
When should radiator network balancing be performed?
Balancing is particularly timely when:
- Radiator valves or line balancing valves are replaced
- Building structures are modified (facade renovation, window replacement)
- Apartment temperatures differ from each other
- The network hisses or makes disturbing noise
- Radiators do not heat up evenly
- Heating energy consumption has increased
An unbalanced radiator network causes both excessively high flow rates near the risers and excessively low flow rates to apartments located further away. This increases energy consumption and reduces living comfort.
Network types and their specific features
The most common heating network is the traditional 2-pipe network, but housing companies may also have 1-pipe networks as well as underfloor heating networks, which are found especially in newer properties. SL Valvonta Oy is familiar with all network types and the adjustments and components required for them.
Our independent expert ensures that the radiator network balancing is carried out correctly and that the heating system operates as energy-efficiently and quietly as possible.
